Hope House provides short-term residential services for individuals in psychiatric crisis.

We offer a safe and supportive environment for people who need a place to stay until they stabilize or until other arrangements can be made. The program is licensed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare.  Hope House is a division of Resources for Human Development, Inc.

At least two trained staff people are on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The maximum capacity is eight individuals, who can stay at Hope House for  five days. An extension of up to five additional days is in some situations possible. Our dedicated staff is focused on assisting consumers in resolving their immediate crises and mobilizing support systems in the community for ongoing treatment and support. The staff consists of experienced bachelor's and master's level professionals, RNs, psychiatrists and licensed social workers.

Hope House is available to any resident of Northampton County, 18 years and over, who is experiencing a psychiatric crisis.  Lehigh County residents who receive services through Magellan/HealthChoices may be referred in, as well.  Additionally, Hope House has contracted with a number of HMO's. Please call and check for eligibility.

Our purpose is to help people work through their crises and reduce the need for hospitalization.

  • Psychiatric Assessment and Treatment
  • Medication Administration and Monitoring
  • Therapeutic and Recreational Activities
  • Psycho Educational Services
  • Family Counseling
  • Follow-Up Planning
  • Case Management and Linkage

                                     

Individuals in crisis may be referred for any of the following reasons,
when it is clearly effecting their daily functioning:
  • Depression 
  • Panic attacks
  • Mania 
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Anxiety
  • Delusional Thoughts
  • Hallucinations 
  • Mood Swings
  • Anxiety
  • Severe emotional problems dealing with relationships issues or other social stressors

 

Referral Process

Persons in crisis should contact their caseworker, therapist, psychiatrist, insurance company, managed care organization or call:

    Northampton County Emergency Services at 610-252-9060
    or Crisis Intervention in Lehigh County: 610-820-3127 (24 hours).

Referrals must be made by a mental health or other health professional. Please ask for our referral packet or click on Referral Process for more information. Referrals are accepted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Hope House Funding
 
Hope House is a service for residents of Northampton County, and is funded through the Northampton County Mental Health and Mental Retardation Division.  County, State and Federal funds allow us to offer crisis residential services to individuals with: 
  • Medical Assistance
  • Magellan, Northampton and Lehigh Counties
  • Medicare
  • and those without any medical coverage.

Referrals of individuals with other medical coverage are subject to negotiations with insurance companies and HMO-s.
